Joplin's Pearl: Janis Joplin Tribute
The year was 1967 when a young singer stepped up to the microphone at California’s Monterrey Pop Festival and proceeded to shake the audience — and the world of rock and blues — to its core. Since that time, the name Janis Joplin brings to mind bold, unbridled vocals, heart-rending emotion and an electrifying presence that is still remembered to this day, even though Janis herself passed away only three years later.
Come to the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead on November 17 and experience the raw power and brilliance of Janis and her music through a tour-de-force performance by Long Island-favorite, Amber Ferrari. Backed by a 9-piece band, Amber does more than sing Joplin’s hits, it seems as though she channels the artist herself. The Times Beacon Record has called Amber’s shows, “more reminiscent of a Broadway musical than a concert,” so get ready for a powerful evening of theater and music.
Doors, bar and restaurant open at 6:30 p.m. and the show itself kicks off at 8 p.m. Make an evening of it with dinner and drinks before the show, available at additional cost. Ticket prices range from $35 to $45, with row seating and cabaret seating available. For more information and to make reservations, visit the theater’s website at: http://www.suffolktheater.com/events
