Annual Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race
Row, Row, Row your cardboard boat to victory! Organized by the Riverhead Business District, this Verizon Fios “Best Community Event on Long Island” attracts around 100 participants and over 2,500 spectators annually. Boats must be made of cardboard & duct tape only and are inspected the day of the races.
There are 4 divisions of races, the Youth Regatta for those 12 and under, the Riverhead Yacht Club Regatta for single occupants, Peconic River Special for pontoons/barges at least 4’x8’, and the Grand National Regatta where anything goes! In addition to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place trophies in each division awards are given for the prettiest boat, most creative, best costumed crew, spirit, fastest boat to sink, ugliest boat, Commander’s Choice, best captain, worst captain & best themed.
